Air Fryer Broccoli Recipe

If you love roasted vegetables, this air fryer broccoli recipe was destined to meet you. It tastes just like your classic roasted broccoli but with much less elbow grease. Once you try this air fryer broccoli recipe, you may never go back to oven roasted broccoli.

We’ve been making Sheet Pan Roasted Vegetables for years, and its savory-roasty flavors never disappoint. While the oven is unparalleled for a large batch diversity of vegetables, the air fryer works wonders for super quick broccoli florets that taste like they’ve been oven roasted.

Pro tips for the best air fryer broccoli

Here are a few tips to ensure that the best air fryer broccoli emerges from your air fryer in just 6 short minutes:

  • Use broccoli florets that are cut/torn into roughly even-sized, small pieces. Think mini-florets. Your broccoli will come out with a soft, tender texture and nicely roasted edges.
  • Toss the broccoli florets together with seasonings (olive oil, garlic and onion powders, kosher salt, and black pepper) in a bowl prior to transferring to air fryer basket. This allows all the nooks and crannies of the air fryer broccoli will be packed with flavor.
  • We use powdered garlic and onion in lieu of freshly chopped, as the powdered seasonings are much less likely to burn. Powdered seasonings also get into the nooks and crannies of the roasted broccoli florets perfectly.
  • Add just a bit (one tablespoon) of water to the bottom of the air fryer; this helps keep air fryer broccoli tender and prevents burning.

Can I use frozen broccoli for this recipe?

      • chewoutloud

Because frozen veggies tend to trap a lot of excess moisture, I would stick with fresh broccoli for this recipe. Hope you love it, Shelly!

    • Bethany

Wonderful flavor! Even the two in my family who are not broccoli fans are begging for more.

    • lovinnc

Took twice as long as recipe says. Be prepared plus need only half the amount of water or doesn’t get the roasted taste,

    • Hannah

Best broccoli recipe ever! Seriously I cannot wait to make more. I sprinkled lemon juice on after. Yum!

      • chewoutloud

Yay, so happy you loved it, Hannah!

    • Cindy

This was the first thing I made in my new Instant Pot Duo Crisp and it came out perfect! Broccoli cooked through with just a little bite, lovely crispy edges and the seasonings topped with a splash of lemon *chefs kiss*. Thank you!

This looks fabulous except for the sausage (I’m a Vegetarian). I’m going to use this with this tofurkey recipe, any suggestions or spices I should add to make it fit together perfectly? (Taste-wise)

      • chewoutloud

That will work wonderfully, simply sub for your favorite brand of vegetarian-style-turkey.

LOVE Broccoli in the air fryer. It looks like the salt may have been omitted in the nutrition calculator. There would be at least 144mg per serving from the salt alone.

    • Carson

Stupid question but: if this serves 4 and each serving is 92 kcalories then eating the whole thing is 368 kcal? I’m trying to gain weight and I’m having trouble seeing how this is almost 400 calories.

Other than that it’s fantastic! I’m going to be making this all the time now. Thank you.

      • chewoutloud

It’s about 70-ish per serving, likely due to olive oil goodness! SO glad you liked it 🙂

    • Kate

I’ve used this recipe every time I’ve air fried broccoli and it’s perfect every time! Thank you

      • chewoutloud

      You’re very welcome, Kate!

    • Carole

Can you make this with frozen broccoli? New to the Air Fryer world 🙂

      • chewoutloud

Carole, I’d recommend fresh for best results… hope you love it!

        • Kris

I live alone and make much smaller amounts. How do I adjust the time and temp.?

          • chewoutloud

You can make a smaller batch, using generally same time/temp!

    • Jane

    • Whitney

broccoli turned out fantastic!! the water in the bottom is the ticket! thank you for the recipe! x

      • chewoutloud

So glad you enjoyed it, Whitney!

    • Lisa Lou

It took me 3 times as long to cook this and it came out crunchy and hard. I’m not sure if I did something wrong. I needed to add parmesan and Everything but the Bagel seasoning to give it some taste.

    • Dianna

Just as yummy as oven roasted but so much faster!

      • chewoutloud

      Thanks, Dianna! 🙂

    • Jerri

This recipe was wonderful! Great trick to use a couple tablespoons of water on the bottom of the air fryer (in my drip pan). The broccoli was exactly “crisp tender” and delicately flavored with the onion and garlic powders. This one’s a keeper!

      • chewoutloud

      Thank you, Jerri! 🙂
