These Cheddar Bay Biscuits are the perfect match for any meal. Buttery, cheesy, and irresistibly flaky, these biscuits take only 10 minutes in the oven!
Preheat oven to 425F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
In a bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Set aside.
In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and butter. Use a rubber spatula to gently fold flour mixture with the butter mixture just until no flour streaks remain; small lumps are fine. Gently fold in the cheese.
Form dough into 12 evenly sized mounds and place them 2-inches apart on prepared baking sheet.
Bake for 15-16 minutes or just until golden brown. While biscuits are baking, make the butter topping by combining butter, chives, and garlic powder in a small bowl.
Once biscuits are done baking, gently brush the tops with butter mixture and serve immediately.
Notes
For the best flavor, grate your own block of high-quality cheddar cheese. Pre-shredded cheese often has added anti-caking agents that can affect the texture and flavor of your biscuits.
I use an ice cream scooper to evenly form drop biscuits, which also helps them all bake evenly.
For a smoother look to your biscuits, dampen hands with a bit of water and gently roll the biscuits into balls.
You can also roll the dough out to a 1 ¼” thick rectangular sheet and use a 2 1/2 “ biscuit cutter to create perfectly circular biscuits.
