Juicy Turkey Meatloaf

A few days ago, I realized it had been a long time since we’ve served up meatloaf for dinner. When done right, it’s a mouthwatering dinner for any busy night.

My go-to meatloaf is usually this delicious, twisty Teriyaki Meatloaf.  It’s wonderfully savory and sweet and The Littles devour it every time.

For a fail-proof, awesome sauce classic meatloaf, this guy is our hands down winner.

But this time I wanted turkey meatloaf.  And smothery BBQ sauce.  So this happened…

Slices of BBQ Turkey Meatloaf with Chopped Parsley

Tender and Robust in Flavor

This BBQ Turkey Meatloaf is incredibly tender, juicy, and robust with flavor.

It turns out so tender, you have to be gentle when slicing so the slices stay in one piece. But really, nobody will complain about how tender your turkey meatloaf is.

Replace some of the ketchup with BBQ sauce for a luscious, sweet, savory, and tangy flavor that melds perfectly into the meatloaf.

This is easy peasy.  Just combine all ingredients like so:

Pantry Ingredients

Give it all a good stir to combine well.

Shape it up into a nice rectangular loaf in a large baking dish. I highly suggest free forming it in a large baking dish, rather than using a bread pan.

That way, the meatloaf doesn’t sit smothered in its fat the entire time. Eww. Rather, it gets nicely browned on all sides. Yum.

Like so.

You probably already have the ingredients on hand to make it saucy BBQ Turkey Meatloaf night.

Just a few ingredients, a stir, and shape to bake.  Quick, easy, and 100% scrumptious.

The best kind of weeknight meal.  Enjoy!

  • In a large heavy skillet, heat oil on medium high. Cook onion and garlic until fragrant, about 3 minutes, stirring often. Remove from heat and set aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine ground turkey, breadcrumbs, egg, 1/4 cup of the BBQ/ketchup sauce, salt, and pepper. Add the onion/garlic mixture. Stir well to fully incorporate.

Hi! If I don’t want onion in this recipe, would you reduce the amount of olive oil used to sauteeute the garlic?

      • Amy Dong

Yes, you can reduce it a little if you’d like – Enjoy! 🙂

I’ve made this recipe so many times and I love how moist it is. I know sometimes meatloaf can have a bad reputation, but this recipe blows all of the other ones out of the water. Plus it’s healthier because of the turkey! Thanks for sharing!! <3

Watch bbq sauce, would you recommend?

      • Amy Dong

We like Sweet Baby Ray’s, but you can use your favorite brand. Enjoy!

The recipe was great except for the fact that a google ad popped up over the recipe and left me about an inch to read it. Clicking on the x did not remove the add. I took a screenshot if you’d like to see it.

Omg. This is the best turkey meatloaf I’ve ever made. So moist and flavorful. Even my almost 3 year old grandson asked for more. I used 2 lbs of turkey and just added a little more salt and pepper. Used Kraft Honey bbq sauce.

I made this tonight and it was so good. I fudged a little on proportions since I did albs turkey but it was great! I actually don’t like meatloaf so this was a great surprise. I think its because it is quite saucy so it makes it tastier. Thanks for the recipe.

    • Alyssa

What is the nutritional information for the bbq meatloaf? How many calories per serving? (If it serves 4). Thanks! By the way, this was awesome!

      • chewoutloud

Sorry, Alyssa, I currently don’t have calorie info for the meatloaf. My Fitness Pal and lots of other apps these days can point you to a general count, though. Soo glad you guys liked this 🙂 Thanks for coming over today!

    • Lisa

I was wondering if you could use a loaf pan to cook this or if forming the meatloaf on a 9×13 makes it cool more evenly?

      • chewoutloud

Lisa, you can use a loaf pan, but the reason I prefer a 9×13 is so that I can shape it wider and liquid doesn’t overflow out of the loaf pan. Also, loaf pans tend to keep the meat simmering in its grease, whereas the 9×13 pan allows the grease to stay just at the bottom of pan. Just a personal preference 🙂 Thanks for coming over today! Hope you love this 🙂

    • Sarah

This is my go to comfort meal! I only use one tablespoon of olive oil so I can enjoy seconds. Thank you for sharing 🙂

    • Jeff

Made this last night and everyone loved it,Thanks!! Quick question In your picture above with all the ingredients in the bowl, what herb is that in there? The only one listed is parsley for garnish. Thanks!

      • chewoutloud

Hi, Jeff! So glad you guys like this 🙂 I used dry parsley flakes because I ran out of fresh parsley for that photo 😉 We’re so glad you came over today!
