Caramel Apple Cheesecake Dip

Fall opens the door for all the get-togethers, potlucks, and parties. Sometimes we have more than a few minutes to serve up a fabulous appetizer or  tantalizing sweet treat.

Other times we don’t have a minute to spare. This Caramel Apple Cheesecake Dip is for that kind of sometimes. It’s in the category of last-minute eats you’ll want (need) in your holiday arsenal when your schedule gets insanely crazy. Or maybe that’s just me, but please say it’s not 🙂

Here’s the deal: people quickly devour all the sliced apples dipped with caramel apple dip and they don’t care one iota that it only took you 60 seconds to make it happen.

Two Ingredient Party Dip?

Yes, 2 ingredients is all you need for this caramel apple cream cheese dip. Three, if you count the sliced apples everyone loves to munch on.

Ready, set, go:

  • cream cheese spread (the spreadable kind in a tub)
  • salted caramel sauce

Super easy is the name of the game here.

If you’d like to use homemade salted caramel sauce, obviously nothing beats DIY caramel sauce. However, we are talking last-minute emergency party dip situations, so feel free to grab your favorite store bought caramel sauce.

Keep apples from turning brown

I’m all in with keeping sliced apples from turning brown. No thanks, Oxidation. I’ve tried more ideas than I can count because I’m obsessed with preparing as much as possible ahead of time.

Which means I like having apples already sliced before everyone arrives. I’ve always used several splashes of lemon juice in the past – it works fine, but can cause the apples to taste too tart.

These days, I pre-slice apples an hour or two ahead of time, place them in a large Ziploc bag, and add a few splashes of orange juice or pineapple juice or any juice blend that has enough acidity. Close the bag airtight and keep chilled, up to a few hours. You’ll have freshly sliced apples ready to go. Voila!

There’s also an old school salt brine method that my mom still uses, if you want to give that a go.

Fun Variations for your caramel apple cheesecake dip

Here are a few ways to add a bit of flair into this simple cream cheese dip:

  • Try a flavored cream cheese spread in lieu of plain cream cheese. Tasty seasonal options include honey pecan, pumpkin spice, and brown sugar cinnamon.
  • Top with a sprinkling of Cinnamon Sugar Candied Nuts. I highly recommend having a batch of these candied nuts at all times. They’re So. Good. I’m always sprinkling them over salads and desserts, or using them in snack mixes. Not to mention my family devours them by the handful.
  • Rather than layering the cream cheese spread and caramel sauce, you can simply stir it into a smooth and creamy caramel dip.
  • Serve your dip with more than apples. Pretzel crisps, ginger snaps, and pears are great options.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 8 servings (18 ounces)
Author: Amy Dong

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese spread, tub not block, plain
  • 10 oz salted caramel sauce, store-bought or homemade
  • Optional: chopped roasted nuts or cinnamon-sugar pecans for topping
  • For serving: fresh sliced apples, pears, ginger snaps, or pretzel chips

Instructions

  • In a medium-small serving dish, layer one-third of the cream cheese followed by one-third of the caramel sauce. Repeat layering two more times. Can be covered and chilled until ready to serve. When ready to serve, sprinkle with chopped cinnamon-sugar pecans  or roasted nuts of your choice.
  • Serve with plenty of freshly sliced apples, pears, ginger snaps, or pretzel chips.

Notes

You can opt to stir the cream cheese spread and salted caramel together into a smooth, velvety dip in lieu of layering.
As a variation, try a flavored cream cheese spread such as pumpkin spice or brown sugar cinnamon.
To keep sliced apples looking fresh, toss them with generous splashes of orange juice or pineapple juice (or any 100% juice blend that has a good amount of acidity.) Using acidic fruit juices instead of lemon juice helps sliced apples from tasting too tart.
