Strawberry Julius Recipe (4 ingredients)

This Strawberry Julius Recipe is a copycat of that popular smoothie everyone adores. Now you don’t have to make a run for the mall when you’re craving a cold, frothy Strawberry Julius. All natural ingredients, nothing artificial. 200% yum.

I’m breaking my own record for making the most SuperTarget runs in a single week ever. Most of the time when I make a repeat trip to the store, it’s because my Wunderlist app does an oops on me or my Littles are begging for gum. Those things usually make me forget to buy something I need.

Gotta say I adore my Wunderlist and iPhone when shopping, but sometimes I accidentally delete stuff. Story of my life.

Anyway. I was going in and out of SuperTarget this week like it’s my BFF’s house because of the Wubble Bubble…

Strawberry-Julius-2

The Wubble Bubble. It Looks Like a Bubble, Plays Like a Ball! As Seen on TV. You know where this is going.

I saw a display of Wubble Bubbles with those all-enticing red clearance stickers on them. They looked super fun, were on total sale, and The Littles would have a blast. They did have a major blast with their new inflatable ball. For like 5 minutes. The ball had a crack, so we went back to exchange it.

The second ball turned out all lopsided when we inflated it and looked more like an oblong squash than a ball. Back to the store. Just when we thought our Wubble trouble was over, the new ball popped within the first hour of play. Strike three; goodbye forever, Wubby.

Strawberry-Julius

Thankfully, it’s not nearly as hard to get a Strawberry Julius Recipe right. All it takes is a few ingredients. Less, if you don’t count water and ice.

About a week ago, our family piled into the car and headed out to our favorite local berry patch. We picked enough ruby red, luscious strawberries to last us weeks. Too bad fresh strawberries don’t last more than a few days in the fridge; I finally gave in and quit trying to force strawberries on everyone every couple of hours. We ended up freezing the majority of those beautiful berries.

The upside: frozen strawberries = smoothies. Rather than the typical yogurt-banana-strawberry smoothie, we went Julius style and whipped up these copycat Strawberry Julius drinks.

Strawberry Drink in a Jar

The Littles totally appreciated this Strawberry Julius Recipe, and have been asking me to blend it up every single day since. Good thing I still have, umm, another box full of frozen strawberries in the freezer.

Hang around for some more delicious strawberry recipes 🙂 Enjoy.

This Strawberry Julius Recipe is a copycat of the famous mall drink everyone flocks to. It's super easy, with just 4 ingredients! All natural, nothing artificial, and tastes awesome.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 3
Author: Amy Dong

Ingredients

  • 3 cups sliced strawberries, very cold or frozen
  • 1 ½ cup milk, I use whole, but lowfat or almond milk is fine too
  • ½ - 1 cup powdered sugar, use less if berries are very sweet, more if berries are somewhat tart
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup crushed ice

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a powerful blender. Blend until mixture is smooth and frothy. May need to scrape down sides/bottom intermittently. Serve and enjoy immediately! (Note: there is quite a variation in the amount of sugar to be used, as it largely depends on how sweet your berries are to begin with. The sweetness/ripeness of your natural berries will make a big difference!)

I skip the ice and just make a milk based fruit smoothie that borders on a milk shake (yes, I know Juliuses are ice based not really closed to shakes) and just use more strawberries (or whatever fruit I’m adding to the strawberries; cranberries are good when fresh in season) or even freeze some milk into cubes to save money over high-priced berries and use a tube of strawberry water flavoring for the low calorie sweetness and a boost of strawberry flavoring (you can even get caffeinated tubes ;-). In fact if you use cheap artificial vanilla (it’s water based instead of alcohol which can mess with the taste), add some whey powder and a very small touch of cream, you get really close to the taste of a fast food strawberry shake if you don’t add much ice (or none at all), not so much a Julius which is just a flavored proprietary powder, ice, and water in a blender. Any of these copycat recipes that use real fruit actually taste better and are more or less a milk based fruit smoothie which were what the Juliuses are trying to mimic without the expensive fruit and milk.

Too many ads. It’s a battle getting to the recipe. I usually give up. But thanks anyway. On

Diane, I’m so sorry…working with our site tech to fix that. Are you experiencing this on mobile or desktop?

It is good, but there could be a little bit less vanilla.
