How to make easy flatbread in 15 minutes
Welcome to this super easy flatbread recipe that emerged out of a massive hankering for crispy, tender, toothsome flatbread that wouldn’t require hours to accomplish.
This is absolutely the quickest, tastiest, and weeknight friendly flatbread that has ever flipped off the pan.
This garlic herb flatbread is golden brown and crispy on top, bottom, and all around. Then there’s the tender soft center that’s hidden just underneath the crispy edges. It’s the perfect accompaniment to this Chicken Sweet Potato Stew and this Roasted Tomato Basil Soup.
What is Flatbread, exactly?
Flatbread is traditionally made of unleavened bread, with just a few simple ingredients like flour, salt, and water. Because traditional flatbread utilizes the intense heat of brick ovens, most of us at home must tweak our recipes to accommodate our home kitchens. We’re in love with this homemade naan recipe, as it’s the closest we’ve come to Indian style naan at home.
These days, common flatbread found in grocery stores and many restaurants are more of a hybrid between pita bread and naan bread. It tends to be a bit fluffier and chewier than traditional yeast-free versions.
This 15-minute flatbread goes even further and makes smart use of store-bought pizza dough for those busy weeknights when you just want to whip up some crispy, chewy soft bread the family will devour. If you prefer, here’s our recipe for homemade pizza dough. Because pizza dough is actually a type of flatbread itself, it’s a perfect quick choice.
Ways to Use Flatbread
This easy flatbread is packed with flavor, given plenty of seasoning sprinkled into the center of the dough. Fold the dough over, and it creates delectable layers of crispiness and tenderness. Because it’s so crispy-delicious straight off the skillet, you can serve it simply as-is, in place of your favorite dinner rolls.
You can also sprinkle some mozzarella and parmesan cheese on top and give it a minute under the broiler for a cheese-bread option.
If you have kids with varying tastes, they may love having their own little flatbread pizza, as they top their flatbread with sauce and toppings of their choice.
This flatbread is delicious served alongside Slow-Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala, which is an easier weeknight version of our original Chicken Tikka Masala Recipe.

Easy Garlic Herb Flatbread
Ingredients
- 1 14-16 oz prepared pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 4 TB olive oil
- 2 TB freshly chopped flat-leaf parsley or basil
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- coarse sea salt for sprinkling on top
Instructions
- On a floured surface, roll out pizza dough to a 1/4 inch thickness. Sprinkle evenly with garlic. Fold dough in half so the garlic powder is inside the dough. Roll back out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into roughly equal pieces (about 8 pieces.)
- Heat 2 TB oil in a large nonstick skillet on medium high heat. Swirl to ensure even coating of oil on pan. Once oil is hot, gently place 4 pieces of dough on pan (do not overcrowd; may split into 2 batches or use 2 pans.) Cook until golden brown, about 1 min. Flip over and cook another minute. Press down a bit on dough with spatula to ensure even browning.
- Transfer flatbreads to a serving plate. Sprinkle with the parsley (or basil) and sea salt. Repeat with rest of batches, adding more oil to coat pan as necessary. Serve immediately for best results.
