Air Fryer Broccoli Recipe

If you love roasted vegetables, this air fryer broccoli recipe was destined to meet you. It tastes just like your classic roasted broccoli but with much less elbow grease. Once you try this air fryer broccoli recipe, you may never go back to oven roasted broccoli.

We’ve been making Sheet Pan Roasted Vegetables for years, and its savory-roasty flavors never disappoint. While the oven is unparalleled for a large batch diversity of vegetables, the air fryer works wonders for super quick broccoli florets that taste like they’ve been oven roasted.

Pro tips for the best air fryer broccoli

Here are a few tips to ensure that the best air fryer broccoli emerges from your air fryer in just 6 short minutes:

  • Use broccoli florets that are cut/torn into roughly even-sized, small pieces. Think mini-florets. Your broccoli will come out with a soft, tender texture and nicely roasted edges.
  • Toss the broccoli florets together with seasonings (olive oil, garlic and onion powders, kosher salt, and black pepper) in a bowl prior to transferring to air fryer basket. This allows all the nooks and crannies of the air fryer broccoli will be packed with flavor.
  • We use powdered garlic and onion in lieu of freshly chopped, as the powdered seasonings are much less likely to burn. Powdered seasonings also get into the nooks and crannies of the roasted broccoli florets perfectly.
  • Add just a bit (one tablespoon) of water to the bottom of the air fryer; this helps keep air fryer broccoli tender and prevents burning.
  • Use at least a 6-quart air fryer or larger, for feeding a family.

I used MSG instead of salt, and chicken stock instead of water. Flavor was great, but 6 minutes was nowhere near done. Easily went another 7 minutes (in 2-3m bursts). Brocc was still a bit crunchy for my taste. (double basket style)

Great recipe, my second batch came out perfect. I ended up with 11 muffins. Had to cook them a few extra minutes.

10 stars! This was so good and simple. I combined the broccoli and mixture ahead of time to save my sanity when it came time to make dinner and entertain my kid.
The flavors melded into the broccoli and the edges were perfectly roasted. I did have to cook an extra 4 min but it was well worth it.

It needed a little longer in there, and i used chopped garlic and onion because i didn’t have the powders. But overall it was delicious!!

Easy and tasty. I have an oven-like air fryer (not a basket-type). It has 2 shelves. I cooked them for 8 mins. swapping the shelves halfway thru. I think the TBSP of water is a good idea.

Hi! How many servings does this make? I see you provide nutritional information for one serving but it wasn’t clear to me whether the 12 ounces of broccoli is considered one serving or whether you’re breaking that up into a smaller portion.

In 50 years of cooking, I thought nothing would ever top broccoli with cheese sauce as my favorite broccoli dish, but this has done it. Fabulous and simple. I cut up the usable stems, not just the florets, it goes much further. This is a recipe I will be using a LOT. Thanks.

      • Amy Dong

      That’s amazing, Marc! Yay 🙂

      • Melissa

I always freeze stems and stalks for broccoli and cheese soup base.

My airfryer is an AF/toaster oven combo, where would I put water? The isn’t a basket really, it’s like a metal flat tray with holes in it.

      • Amy Dong

You can try putting a small pan of water into the oven where it fits best.

The tip to put a little bit of water at the bottom of the pan was something I have not heard before but it worked perfectly! I will be doing this from now on!

      • Amy Dong

      Yay, Courtney!

    • Amy

Do you preheat for 5 mins? And if so, do you add the water before or after the preheat? I want to make this tonight. Thanks!

      • Amy Dong

Amy, my air fryer doesn’t need a preheat, but if yours requires preheating, 5 minutes is more than enough time. You can add the water just before adding the veggies.

This was a very good recipe! The added bit of water in the air fryer definitely makes a huge difference! We eat a lot of broccoli and I’ve tried a lot of recipes and none of them were quite to my liking. This recipe you posted was perfect. Everyone agreed! Thank you for sharing.

    Awesome recipe!

Great recipe, but EVO is not really air fryer friendly because of its low smoke point. It can cause smoking from the fryer. You are better off using Light EVO, AVO or Coconut Oil with this. Loved the broccoli!

The 6-8 minutes it cooks in not long enough to really be concerned with smoke temp…………the flavor from good oil is fantastic. If it cooked longer I would agree.
